In September 2023, we embarked on a journey to measure the
learning outcomes in instructional literacy for grade 3 learners across 96
targeted schools in three districts of Rwanda: Karongi in the Western Province,
Gatsibo, and Kayonza in the Eastern Province on behalf of World Vision.
Our comprehensive evaluation utilized cutting-edge tools,
including:
- STAR
tool for assessing literacy skills among 1000 children
- MEQA
tool to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional methods for 198
teachers and 120 Reading Camps facilitators
- Caregiver/Parent
survey tool to gather insights from 1000 parents
- Engaging
in 10 focus group discussions to capture diverse perspectives the project
successfully empowered over 50,000 children (24,817 boys and 25,183 girls)
with essential literacy skills by September 2023.
