Education Development Consult has implemented the innovative
Inclusive Reading Space enhancement with Technology (EDC-Soma mobile
application) project, in partnership with the Rwanda Basic Education Board
(REB).
Designed in alignment with Universal Design for Learning
(UDL) principles, our project aimed to empower ALL learners, including those
with visual and hearing difficulties, by providing access to grade-level
storybooks in Kinyarwanda, English, and French via any android device including
the smartphones.
After a rigorous piloting phase in six inclusive schools
spanning six months, the project garnered overwhelming support and approval
from REB, paving the way for its nationwide implementation.
Over the course of two impactful years, we're proud to
announce that more than 10,000 learners, including those with disabilities,
along with 300 teachers and 2300 parents, have seamlessly accessed grade-level
books through our innovative mobile application.
This milestone not only reflects our commitment to fostering
inclusive education but also underscores the transformative power of technology
in bridging educational gaps and fostering a more equitable learning
environment for all.
Education Development Consult will continue to champion
inclusive education initiatives and empower learners of all abilities to
learn!
